The Albany State soccer team, long the laughing stock of SUNY soccer, won the State University Center Championships in a ha rd fought overt ime Final this pas t weekend. The win thereby pu ts Albany in a strong position for a post-season tournament bid. The Danes opened the tou rna ment against Buffalo. Buffalo scored first,aflcronly fourminutes of play, bui as things turned ou t , that was their only score of the game. Midway in the hall, Jose Ruano tied the game, assisted by F.dgar Marline/.. Early in the second hall Albany was able to take the lead when John Rolando converted a penalty kick. Ten minutes later, the Danes scored an important insurance goal, when a direct kick by l.eroy Aldridge found its way into the net. floating past the stunned Buffalo goalie. Hie 3-1 victory earned the Danes the right in play Binghamton in the linals. Binghamton advanced to the finals by defeating Stony Brook. 4-0.
